Biafra: Police IG Cautions IPOB Against Planned Protest

 The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) against carrying out its planned protest across states in the southeast over concerns dangerous weapons may be used.


This is coming on the heels of intelligence reports available to security agencies showing that the IPOB have concluded modalities to embark on a violent protest in parts of the country to drive home their agitation.
In a statement in Abuja, the Force spokesperson, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Olabisi Kolawole, called the protest “ill-advised.”

According to ACP Kolawole, Arase said, “Information available to the Nigeria Police indicates plans by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to embark on ill-advised protest using dangerous weapon across some South Eastern States.
“The Nigeria Police Force reminds the brains behind this security threat that the law prohibiting the unlawful possession of firearms is still in-force.
“Therefore any attempt to unleash mayhem on innocent and law abiding Nigerians under any guise by this group will be met with stiff resistance from the Police and other security agencies, the actors will be brought to justice in line with extant criminal laws.
“Citizens in the South-Eastern States are hereby assured of adequate protection, as appropriate Police deployment has been emplaced to deal decisively with any group or persons who might be bent on breaching public peace and threatening national security.”
